Another stellar review for Corner Creek . . .
Corner Creek Reserve Bourbon Whiskey • $25.
Bright light amber color. Sweet roasted corn, clay, and buttery pistachio praline aromas follow through on a round, supple entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body with dried fruits, toffee, dusty grain, and oak spice notes. Finishes with a nice lingering resonant earthy, spicy fade. Very solid and old school bourbon. (tasted on Feb-23-2010) |

| For
two consecutive years, in the Holiday issues of Tastings, from the Beverage Testing Institute,
Corner Creek Reserve Bourbon Whiskey (88 proof), was awarded a 90 Rating, one of the highest
ratings given. Reviews for 2001 and 2002 have again garnered the
rating of "Exceptional."
In fact,
Corner Creek was the only Bourbon priced well below $30 to receive
a score of 90 or above. Most of the top Bourbons were $40 and
higher, even up to $150. Corner Creek, however, is priced in the
mid-twenty-dollar range, making it an incredible value.
Here
is what the Beverage Testing Institute said about Corner
Creek:
"Deep
amber hue. Hedonistic sweet wood, smoke and charred barrel aromas.
A very smooth attack leads to a medium-bodied palate. Refined,
supple, flavorful finish. Rounded and elegant, this is a very
refined style."
In a
separate tasting, Robert Plotkin, nationally syndicated
columnist, Bar Media wrote:
"Whether
you're talking about a Rolls Royce or Bruno Magli shoes, there
is something singularly captivating about a handmade product.
Particularly in today's marketplace where robotics and microchips
reign supreme, a handmade, skillfully crafted product is something
to hold in esteem."
"One
such product is Corner Creek Reserve Bourbon,
88 proof, handcrafted bourbon made at the Corner Creek Distillery
in Bardstown, Kentucky. Spirits enthusiasts across the board
will appreciate Corner Creek's sheer elegance. It is masterfully
constructed with a flawlessly smooth body and complex, pleasing
palate. Its nose is loaded with intriguing nuances and the finish
is long and warming."
"Produced
in limited quantity, Corner Creek Reserve Bourbon is an unqualified
masterpiece. If
you can find it, grab it." |

February 2003 Edition of The Bourbon Country Reader
“Another way in which Corner Creek is ‘a little different’ is its use of a tinted bottle, light green, shaped like a wine bottle. In fact, I have both an Oregon Pinot Noir and a Washington State Chardonnay that come in the exact same bottle. I know of no other bourbon sold in a tinted bottle, historically the preserve of Canadian, American Blends and other whiskey styles . . .
“It’s good. At 88 proof, it is easy to enjoy neat. Char and licorice, both very masculine notes, are the dominant flavors, tempered by dark chocolate. No grain character remains, although the sharp citrus finish suggest the presence of rye in the mash.
“The dryness and relatively low proof balance the strong, masculine flavors to produce a whiskey that is flavorful without being heavy. It is surprisingly refreshing, an attribute not normally applied to a bourbon.
“The finish especially is something to savor. For several minutes after you swallow, it moves from your lips to your tongue to the roof of your mouth and into the back of your throat, leaving quick impressions like snatches of blank verse. A tingle of alcohol here, a lingering whiff of smoke there. You will want to hold off on the subsequent sip to get the most of this effect
“The price of Corner Creek compared to Blanton’s and Basil Hayden is a big plus. We like premium bourbons that stay in the $20-25 range and Corner Creek does. |

Koeppel's Picks of the Week (Memphis Commercial Appeal) December 2001
"Here's a
small brand that deserves wider recognition. Made in Bardstown,
Kentucky, Corner Creek Reserve Bourbon Whiskey, 88 Proof, offers a lovely burnished amber color and a
pungent, resonant Bananas Foster-toffee-dried apricot-orange
zest bouquet borne on a tide of autumn leaves and damp humus;
this is a bourbon that doesn't want you to forget its origins
in earthly fields of wheat, rye, and corn. In the mouth, it's
sweet, powerful, cleansing, and essential."

Review
of Corner Creek Reserve Bourbon Whiskey
by jimboone, Jan 14 '04
Pros: It is superb; it is smooth; it is what
wine aficionados describe as being a classic.
Cons: None that I can think of except that it
is difficult to find.
I bought this
bourbon because I could no longer find a bourbon I have been drinking
for 40 years, i.e. Old Fitzgerald 100 proof. For all those years
I thought this was the best sour mash bourbon. That is until I
stumbled on Corner Creek. |
